This film is probably one of the best sports movies ever made, if not the best. I've decided to make it the movie of the week because Dennis Hopper died this past week :( and I loved his character in this movie.  It's the based on a true story taken place at an Indiana high school.  I loved it for a lot of reasons, but I think mostly because it leaves you with a sense of hope for things in life, whatever they may be.  I don't know if I'm being over sentimental, but the film stayed with me nonetheless. WATCH IT! Enjoy the journey.
