Schoolness...

Sorry I'm posting the Movie of the Week a day late.  I studied and did homework all yesterday.  I need sleep and Spring Break.

Movie of the Week: The Thing

Directed by John Carpenter
Written by John W. Campbell and Bill Lancaster
Released: 1982
Quote: MacReady: "Why don't we just wait here for awhile...see what happens..."

The Thing is probably my favorite sci-fi monster movie of all time.  I remember the first time I watched this I was at my dad's office in the conference room and we turned off all the lights and closed the blinds so it was dark.  We had the VHS version and watched it on a little television.  It was scary and awesome and I loved it.  I'm not exactly sure how old I was, but considering we were watching it on VHS, its been awhile.  After seeing this movie, my brothers and I even made a game out of it that we'd play with some neighbors at night.  The movie takes place in Antartica; dark, lonely and oh so foreboding.  There are no CGI effects so all special effects are done by hand which makes it more realistic in my opinion.  WATCH IT! and prepare yourself for CRAZY MORPHED DOG THINGS. Oh and SWEDES...I mean NORWEGIANS.

Movie of the Week: The Birdcage

Directed by Mike Nichols
Written by Frances Veber, Edouard Molinaro, Marcello Danon, Jean Poiret and Elaine May
Play by Jean Poiret
Released: 1996
Quote: Albert: "I pierced the toast!"

Yes! this  movie is hysterical!  Nathan Lane and Robin Williams play a gay couple who own a cabaret; how amazing is that?!  TOO AMAZING!  I really absolutely loved this movie.  I find it to be hilarious and yet touches a sensitive area in the world today.  There are tons of one-liners and Gene Hackman...YAY! Hehe. There isn't much more I can say to describe this movie mainly because you need to just
WATCH IT!  What better reason can I give you than it's comedic and a classic 90's era film.

I found a neat drawing link yesterday.  It's called Harmony-Procedural drawing tool.  Go try it out and see what neat drawings you can come up with!
Here's the LINK.

Movie of the Week: The Petrified Forest

Directed by Archie Mayo
Written by Charles Kenyon and Delmer Daves
Play by Robert E. Sherwood
Released: 1936
Quote: Alan Squier: "Let there be killing.  All this evening I've had a feeling of destiny closing in."

Oldest Movie of the Week so far!  I watched this with my family the other night before my brother left to go back to school.  I will have to say that this movie's dialogue is better than its action.  Most people wait for exciting things to happen in movies like this, but the conversation over powers all else by far in this film.  I love the character Alan Squier because you're not quite sure what kind of fellow he is; mysterious and charming.  WATCH IT! If you are up for intellectual philosophies of life mixed with bandits, a strange old man, and love, I recommend you check it out.

My Cat...

My cat Cloudy was in a gang fight the other night (according to my grandpa) and she came out with some serious battle wounds.  Her back paws are cut up and her stomach was cut open.  We brought her to the hospital yesterday and they kept her overnight.  She had an infection, so they had to clean her out and put her on strong antibiotics.  She's home now and I have to give her medicine two times a day.  She's limping everywhere and it's sad.  I like imagining her being part of a gang of cats though.  My aunt said she's seen her with lots of other neighborhood cats at night.  I noticed this new cat though that's gray and quite bigger than Cloudy.  My grandpa said he must have wanted to fight her so he could become leader of the Cat Gang.  She's and old cat and her reflexes are not what they use to be, so it seems he won.  I haven't actually seen him though.  The other night he was by the side of the house but he ran away.  I feel as though I need to keep Cloudy as comfortable as possible so I decided to sew her a giant pillow.

First I found some fabric my friend's mom had given me.  I turned the fabric inside out and proceeded to put pins in the frabric every inch or so.

I started sewing along the pin lines I had created, taking each pin out as I sewed closer to the corner I had left unpinned.  Once I had finished my sewing the proper lines, I  pulled the fabric from inside through the hole.

I found a bag of Poly-Fil Micro Beads that I had used for a summer project years before and decided that it would be great for the stuffing inside the pillow.  I went outside (because the stuff makes a huge mess of tiny white beads that stick to you) and poured the micro beads inside the pillow.  I then went back inside and sewed up the opening I had left.  I had made a cow pillow for my kitty!

We had a cardboard box that we had brought her home in, so I decided to decorate it and put the pillow in there.  I cut out the front piece so she could come in and out and put some cat related pictures and one dinosaur picture from her favorite friend Steve the Dinosaur 1.

I think the idea of a little cat house was fun to make and decorate, but in reality she didn't really like it and the pillow felt like sand so she peed on it, but that's okay.  I liked making her a pillow nonetheless.  She is currently on my bed and wishes to stay there.  What can I do?  She's in recovery so I'll let my kitty be.

Quote: Charles Muntz:"Adventure is out there!"

Yay! this movie is absolutely fantastic and it won last night two Oscars for best animated feature film and for its musical score by Michael Giacchino.  This movie contains four things that I absolutely love.  It's like Pixar decided to make a movie for me.  It has balloons!!! which I adore, it has adventure!!! which I always wish I could have more of, and it has an amazing musical score, and it has an endearing story, which captures me completely.  I love this movie!  I want it!!!  WATCH IT!  It will remind you that the world is still filled with amazing adventures!

A Place Where Dreams Come True...

I'm going to Walt Disney World with my family today!!!!! I'm very excited to be on vacation with them.  It's been a long time since all of us have done anything like this together.  I can't wait!  Hopefully I'll get some good shots on my film camera and digital camera and I can post them up when we get back.  YAY!  DISNEY!

Walt Disney!

Oh, and by the way, does anyone else think that George W. Jenkins, otherwise known as the founder of the supermarket Publix, looks surprisingly similar to Walt Disney?

He's is pictured in the middle here.

Today...

Today I'm supposed to be free.  Today I'm supposed to forget.  Today was the last of it.  Today was the final chapter in a book of five years.  Then why is it that today I feel more trapped then ever?

Movie of the Week: The Princess and the Frog

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker
Written by Ron Clements, John Musker, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland
Released: 2009
Quote: Ray:"Don't make me light my butt!"

I've been excited for this movie ever since I heard Disney was making a new animated feature that was more like an original Disney flick.  It takes place in Louisiana which is a perfect setting for great jazz music, great singing and the bayous of course!  The story is an interesting take on the original story of The Princess and The Frog, but I absolutely love what they've done with it.  The songs really are fantastic and movie is just what you'd expect from an original Disney movie and will quickly become a classic.  WATCH IT!  You'll be wishing on Evangeline in no time!
